June 20, 1977 — Maureen and I were married at Balboa Park in one of the last of the hippie weddings. It is the spot on the west side of state Route 163 with the large sloping lawn and big trees between Laurel and Quince streets, but much closer to Quince.
We had a budget of about $200 for the entire affair, including the reception at our rented house on Robinson Avenue, west of First Avenue.
Great memory of the ceremony and then the celebration. People still tell us the party was one of the best they ever attended.
KPBS is collecting your Balboa Park memories as the city marks the 100th anniversary of Balboa Park's 1915 Panama-California Exposition.
