A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday morning for a $34 million YMCA facility in City Heights.
The Copley-Price Family YMCA at the site of the old Pearson Ford dealership on El Cajon Boulevard includes two pools, a fitness center and gymnasium, a demonstration kitchen and play fountains. It replaces the 59-year- old Copley Family YMCA facility on Landis Street, around one mile from the new location.
The new facility opened on Jan. 15.
"Its been a long-time coming," said Loni Lewis, a YMCA spokesperson. "I think we broke ground about a year and a half ago, but it's been in the works for much longer than that. Our old facility was almost 60 years old and it needed a lot of love and a lot of work."

The 53,000-square-foot YMCA also has a teen center, preschool and childcare centers for school-age children.
Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Councilwoman Marti Emerald, Robert Price of Price Charities and Michael Copley from the David C. Copley Foundation all attended the ceremony.
The YMCA held an open house Saturday for members of the community to tour the new facility.
Membership fees range from $25 to $40 dollars a month with special rates for families. Financial assistance is also available.
