A loud cheer went up Thursday as San Diego State University head basketball coach Steve Fisher and his assistant coaches got buckets of ice water dumped over their heads.
After the coaches got iced, the entire men's Aztec team lined up in the middle of the SDSU campus and became the latest people in San Diego to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
“It was freezing cold," Aztecs senior Aqeel Quinn told KPBS media partner 10News.
Quinn said he was proud to do it to raise money and awareness for ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, and support Mark Fisher.
Fisher, son of Aztecs head coach Steve Fisher, and a former assistant coach has been coping with ALS for more than two years. Fisher sat in a nearby golf cart watching as his team took a cold one for him.
"ALS and ice water don't go well together," Mark Fisher said when asked if he would take part in the challenge.
"I'm proud of him, and I'm proud of our team," said Steve Fisher, the water-logged coach after the dousing.
