The USS Gary is expected to return to Naval Base San Diego today after a six-month deployment, which involved the seizure of more than 12,200 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $388 million.

The Gary, an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, took part in countering illicit drug trafficking routes in the waters off Central and South America, according to a Navy news release.

During the USS Gary's participation in Operation Martillo, the ship helped in the seizure of 5,551 kilograms (roughly 12,200 pounds) of cocaine.

As Home Post previously reported, in February, the Navy relieved Cmdr. James “Slim” Pickens from his position as executive officer of the USS Gary "due to loss of confidence because of offensive comments and behavior towards the crew."
