Two U.S. troops were killed today in Afghanistan when their OH-58 Kiowa helicopter crashed in the eastern part of the country.
According to a NATO International Security Assistance Force casualty report, the cause of the crash is under investigation. It is the policy of NATO ISAF not to release information on the nationality of service members killed in action.
However, an unnamed Pentagon official told ABC News the two troops killed were American. They were the only crew members on board.
Maj. Adam Wojack of NATO ISAF told ABC it's possible the helicopter was shot down by enemy fire:
"Sometimes these things take weeks to determine the actual cause."
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for shooting down the helicopter.
