Pop icon Lady Gaga is launching her Born This Way Foundation in Boston this week and Mark Tran, a San Diego organizer, will be on hand as one of California’s 18 young adult delegates.
Lady Gaga is partnering with The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard, the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the California Endowment to launch her Born This Way Foundation. The foundation will train youth to be leaders and advocates in their communities.
That’s the kind of work that Mark Tran does for the City Heights community advocacy group Mid-City CAN everyday. He says he’s spent the last two years getting neighborhood kids involved in shaping City Heights’ future.
“I hope that I can share the successes that we’ve had here in City Heights of really engaging our youth and really building up their confidence and skills to get involved,” he said.
Tran says he hopes the foundation’s message of tolerance and peace will go a long way toward combating bullying and the lack of safety some kids feel at school.
