Gardner To Be Sentenced Today For Teenage Girls' Murders

The parents of two San Diego County teenage girls will confront their daughters' killer in court today Friday. John Gardner has admitted to raping and killing Amber Dubois and Chelsea King.

Gardner is scheduled to be sentenced this afternoon to two life terms in prison without the possibility of parole. Local defense attorney Gerald Blank says the parents of both Amber and Chelsea are likely to address Gardner in court.

"I expect them to express the depth of their loss and the depth of the horror they're living with," Blank said.

Blank says the impact of the girls' murders on the San Diego community is profound and everlasting.

"Now people will be telling their children, don't go out alone, don't run alone, don't walk alone. Don't be alone," Blank said. "They'll be more suspicious of friends, neighbors, everybody. It's a negative that's going to last for a long, long time into the future."

The jogger that Gardner assaulted in December is also expected to speak in court today.
