The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority wants to hear what people think about plans to reduce airplane noise. The authority holds a workshop Tuesday to talk about a federal noise study of Lindbergh Field. KPBS Reporter Ed Joyce has details.
North Park and Point Loma are among the neighborhoods most affected by planes flying in and out of Lindbergh Field.
Dan Frazee is the Director of Airport Noise Mitigation for the Airport Authority.
He says an on-going program pays the full cost for home noise insulation in exchange for homeowners agreeing not to sue the authority.
Frazee says that's one area the federal study will address.
Frazee:
So we've had that program in place since 1999 to insulate homes on the west side, on the east side of the airport. So that's one of the issues that it actually looks at. It looks at a bunch of alternative measures that an airport can propose to adopt to reduce or eliminate noise issues.
He says one of those measures could include changing some flight paths to reduce noise over neighborhoods.
The federal study is expected to be completed later this year.
The workshop starts at 5 p.m. at the airport's commuter terminal on the third floor. Parking validations will be provided.
