A report due out today in Washington details thousands of government programs at risk of waste and fraud.
San Diego Republican Congressman Darrell Issa was among the lawmakers requesting the report. Todd Zwillich has more from Washington.
The report is due out from the Government Accountability Office. Issa says it's rife with examples of programs that are either wasting money, at risk for abuse, ignoring the intent of Congress, or all three.
One example Issa says, is the US Census Bureau. He says the agency stalled in implementing new efficiency technology that Congress ordered.
Issa: "As a result hundreds of millions of dollars will have been wasted, and we will spend a billion additional dollars to do the census simply because we didn't have the additional tools that Congress asked for and funded."
Lawmakers say they want the report to be President Obama's guide…when he follows up on a pledge to cut wasteful spending out of the federal budget.
