Romney Visits San Diego and Calls to Bolster Border Patrol Ranks
Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney took a tour of the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego today. Afterwards, Romney called for an increase in Border Patrol agents. But he also said the U.S. needs to crack down on employers who hire undocumented workers and local governments that make it easier for them to stay here.
Romney : If you have thousands of people coming across the border every day for work, you're not going to be able to find every time those who are coming across with drugs and those who are coming across with homeland security threats. You've got to shut down the agents of these sanctuary cities and these employers that hire people who are coming into the country illegally.
The former Massachusetts governor was asked about several cities in that state that have declared themselves “sanctuaries” for illegal immigrants. Romney says if he were President, he would cut some federal funds to those cities, although opponents note he didn't do so as governor.
