Local Biotech Firm Wins Grant to Mass-Produce Pandemic Vaccine

If a pandemic were to hit the U.S., health officials fear the government couldn't produce mass quantities of vaccine quickly enough to save lives. A local bio-tech company is working on a new system to fast-track vaccines.

Vical just got a $6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop the company's Rapid Response System. It says the new technology promises to manufacture millions of doses of vaccines in less than a week.
