California Again Leading Nation in Gas Prices

Gasoline prices continue climbing in California.  KPBS reporter Ed Joyce says there are ways to stretch your gas mileage.

The Auto Club says California leads the nation again in the price of gasoline. Filling up our gas tanks costs more this week than last week. Pump prices are now more than 60 cents higher than most other states and nearly 80 cents more than the least expensive state, which is South Carolina. The Auto Club's Elaine Beno says you can save some money by conserving.

Beno : Try to carpool, possibly use transit and also empty out anything in the trunk except their spare tire which they need for safety reasons. But if you're carrying extra things in the car it will drag down your gasoline mileage.

The average price for self-serve regular in San Diego is $3.17 a gallon -- about five cents more than last week.
