Jim “Crush” Duricy was a father, husband and a United States Air Force test pilot at Eglin Air Force Base with the 46th Test Wing Squadron. On April 30, 2002, he flew his last mission testing the speeds of the F-15C with the AIM-9X Sidewinder missile. He was required to reach the speeds of Mach 2 in order to complete the test. During the mission, his plane tore in half right behind the cockpit. He ejected from the plane, sending him in the fast airstream and killing him instantly. His legacy serves as an inspiration to the next generation of pilots.
