Clay Hoffman will speak on “The Misunderstood Life of General Fitz John Porter." Although Porter served well in the early battles of the Civil War, his military career was ruined by a controversial court-martial instigated by political rivals. After the war, he worked for almost 25 years to restore his tarnished reputation and was finally restored to the army's roll. Mr. Hoffman is a longtime member of the San Diego Civil War Round Table and has written dozens of articles on historical topics. His recent book is "A Pearl of Uganda: The Story of Holy Innocents Children's Hospital."
