Maybe I've been working in local arts for too long, but if you gave me two seconds to name whatever jazz trumpeters first came to mind, I'd say Miles Davis and Gilbert Castellanos, our own local icon. If you're anything like that, then this concert is made for you. Castellanos will perform at the Rady Shell with his band to celebrate Davis' "Kind of Blue," which was released 65 years ago to the date of this concert. 7:30 p.m., Aug. 17. $18-$70.

One of the greatest albums of all time and the best-selling jazz album ever, Miles Davis' masterpiece "Kind of Blue" is as relevant and revered today as when it was recorded in 1959.
Talented student musicians of the Young Lions Jazz Conservatory perform a pre-concert set.
