The Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP), the oldest all-girls Catholic high school in San Diego County, will be holding the Ninth Annual Women’s Symposium on Friday, March 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at OLP’s campus (4860 Oregon Street, San Diego, CA 92116). Modeled after the speaker panels at leading universities, OLP’s Women’s Symposium brings together top women leaders to share their insight and pathways to success with students and the community.
This year’s theme, “The Hope is Here”, congregates women leaders and students to partner in the hope of being the change the world needs today. Open to the public, from high school students to seasoned business professionals, the 2023 OLP Women’s Symposium features a series of workshops and highly curated panels with prominent leaders in their industries. The half-day, nonprofit event will leave attendees with tangible advice, pathways forward, and the inspiration to bring a representative female voice to the table of life. Through dialogue and modeling, these female leaders empower young women to stand up for themselves and fearlessly chase their dreams.
The event’s keynote speaker is Maya Gabeira, a Brazilian Big Wave Surfer best known for setting the 2020 World Record for the biggest wave ever surfed by a woman and the biggest wave surfed by anyone - male or female - that year at 73.3 feet. As an ESPY award winner, 7x Big Wave Award champion, and 2x Laureus nominee, Maya is one of the most influential female surfers of all time. She is also passionately committed to and a fierce advocate for restoring the world's ocean through her role as UNESCO champion of the Ocean and Youth and as part of the board of directors of Oceana.
Admission is free for high school students, educators, and military members. Tickets are on sale for $35, and $25 for alumni. The funds raised from the event will support the Carondelet Annual Fund, which supports our areas of greatest need including academics, athletics, co-curricular activities, technology, campus maintenance and much more.
