Come to Downtown Chula Vista to partake in a traditional Mexican celebration, Día De Los Muertos, which honors loved ones who have passed with dancing, singing and enjoying food on Saturday, October 29 from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m.. in the heart of Chula Vista. Those who choose to honor a loved one are invited to bring a copy of their photo to place on the 12-foot community altar at the corner of Third and Davidson.
Guests are encouraged to dress up as Catrínas and Catrínes and snap a photo at one of the many cool photo stands hosted by the Downtown Chula Vista Association. The most creative look will also take home a fun prize! In addition, kids will enjoy fun games and activities like sugar skull decorating and collecting goodies from local businesses as well as a special screening of Pixar’s "COCO" at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park.
This year’s celebration will include a Catrínas and Catrínes ensemble competition. Categories include 12 & Under ($150 cash prize), Best Catrin ($250 cash prize), Best Catrina ($250 cash prize) & Best Couple ($500 cash prize). The event will also feature an altar building contest with three different categories and the winners of each category will take home a $500 cash prize, while the overall winner will take home a $1,000 cash prize. More information on the contest can be found here.
