Bach Collegium presents "A Sonic Youth"

Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 7 PM
$15-$55
$15/Student, $32/Senior, $40/General, $55/Premium

From San Diego Weekend Arts Events:
Bach Collegium, under the direction of Ruben Valenzuela, will kick off their new season with some early works from Bach and Handel — both written in 1707. Handel's "Dixit Dominus" ("The Lord said") is reported to be his earliest surviving, dated autograph, or handwritten manuscript. And Bach's "Christ lag in Todes Banden" ("Christ lay in death's bonds") is said to be one of his earliest church cantatas, based on a Martin Luther hymn.

Valenzuela has titled this season "Total Sound Explosion," which is a nod to the drama and intensity of these works. They'll also be kicking off a professional recording project with this show, so if you want your applause forever burned into the musical archives, show up.

Side note: the performance will be held at All Soul's Church, home of the stunning botanical stained glass wall by iconic regional artist James Hubbell.
