Hickey, Elliott Vie To Become Next San Diego City Attorney
Hickey, Elliott Vye To Become Next San Diego City Attorney
GUESTS:
Robert Hickey, deputy district attorney, San Diego County
Mara Elliott, chief deputy city attorney, City of San Diego
Even though San Diego voters are facing a packed ballot in November, there's only one citywide race left after the June primaries: city attorney.
Republican Robert Hickey, a deputy district attorney, is facing off against Democrat Mara Elliott, a chief deputy city attorney. Incumbent Jan Goldsmith, a Republican, can't run again due to term limits. The city attorney's office prosecutes misdemeanors, provides legal advice to city officials and defends the city in civil cases.
In a discussion taped Tuesday afternoon, Hickey and Elliott joined KPBS Midday Edition to discuss their stances on police oversight, the release of body camera footage, ticketing homeless people downtown and how they would keep the office nonpartisan.
