The Padres will open their 2016 Major League Baseball season against the Los Angeles Dodgers, while highly anticipated visits by the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will take place in July and September, respectively.
The schedule released Tuesday is highlighted by the All-Star Game July 12 at Petco Park. The Home Run Derby and other associated events are set for the day before.
Next year's season will start April 4 with the Dodgers, the likely winner of the National League West division this year, for three games.
The interleague schedule will include visits by the Baltimore Orioles, June 28-29; Yankees, July 1-3; and Red Sox, Sept. 5-7. On the road, the Padres will make their first-ever visit to the Toronto Blue Jays, July 25-27, and also travel to Baltimore, June 21-22, and Tampa Bay, Aug. 15-17.
If the Padres are still in the race late in the year, September offers a favorable slate that includes a 10-game homestand, Sept. 19-29, before finishing the regular season with three contests in Arizona. Of the final 29 games, 26 will be against NL West rivals.
