Two people were killed Wednesday afternoon when a helicopter crashed at McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, according to North County dispatch.
The aircraft crashed around 4:30 p.m., a Federal Aviation Administration official said.
The circumstances of the crash, which prompted a closure of the single-runway airport, were unclear, and the victims' identities were not immediately available.
Investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were en route to the accident site in the early evening, FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said.
