A Port of San Diego staff report recommends the Brigantine to replace Anthony's Fish Grotto on the downtown waterfront.
Anthony's has been on the waterfront since 1946, but the restaurant's lease expires in January 2017.
The port commission staff said Anthony's should be replaced with a new two-level "Portside Pier" complex proposed by The Brigantine Inc. It would have several restaurants, including its flagship Brigantine and a Miguel's Cocina, another of the company's restaurant brands. The proposal also calls for an expanded "dock and dine" space and a public viewing deck. The staff report said Portside Pier would bring in more than $10.4 million in rent over 10 years.
Anthony's parent company, Fish Market Restaurants Inc., also submitted a proposal for a two-story complex with six restaurants. But the port staff said the Fish Market proposal did not include an expanded dock and dine, and would bring in about $8.9 million in rent over 10 years, less than the Brigantine plan.
The third proposal from Sunroad Enterprises included a Stone Brewing company store and tasting room, and a Blue Point restaurant. Port staff said it offered the lowest amount of rent to the Port District, about $8.3 million over a decade.
The Board of Commissioners is scheduled to consider the recommendation at its 1 p.m. Tuesday meeting.
