San Diego State University's veteran's center has a new home that is double the size of the original center, an SDSU spokeswoman said.
The new location of the Joan and Art Barron Veteran's Center, which is adjacent to the Aztec Student Union, was celebrated with a ceremony and open house on Friday.
The center serves 3,200 student veterans on the campus, SDSU Media Relations Manager Beth Chee said. The main goal of the office is to process federal and state educational benefits for veterans, as well as the dependents of veterans.
Veterans are able to transfer their educational benefits to a spouse or dependents. Children of those who die in the line of duty are also eligible for educational benefits, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
"The cool thing about our office is that we don't only serve veterans, we do a lot of paperwork with dependents as well, so there's dependents using state benefits ... we're not just limited to veterans or active duty. We reach the whole military community," said Clarisa Du, a senior at SDSU who works at the center.
The new location has a kitchen, offices for full-time employees, a larger study area and a conference room. The center also offers tutoring services throughout the year.
