A man and a woman were fatally shot at a Sunset Cliffs- area home early Friday, and the alleged gunman was later arrested nearby.
The male victim called for help around 3:10 a.m. after the gunfire began in the 1000 block of Tarento Drive near Santa Barbara Street. The police dispatcher heard gunshots as the man asked for help shortly before the phone disconnected, San Diego police homicide Lt. Paul Rorrison said.
Officers sent to the home found the mortally wounded man and woman inside, Rorrison said. Both were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, but later died.
Police, SWAT team members and K-9 units searched the surrounding neighborhood for the alleged gunman.
A 22-year-old man who was armed with a handgun was arrested near the home around 7:45 a.m., the lieutenant said. He was believed to be the victims' son, San Diego 6 News reported.
Rorrison said the identities of the victims were known, but were being withheld until family members could be notified.
He asked anyone with additional information on the shootings to call police at (619) 531-2425, or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
