A power outage at Camp Pendleton has left mess halls, clinics and wastewater facilities in the dark.
A spokesman for the Marine Corps base said the outage was caused by a fire at an electrical substation on the base at about 6 p.m. Monday. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Areas 52, 53, 62, 63 and 64 on the northern end of the base are affected. Officials don't yet know when full power will be restored but are working to power up generators. Initial reports say housing and the retail exchange in the 51 Area of the base are not affected.
The base is pushing updates to its Facebook page.
