Two Navy ships homeported in San Diego, USS Kidd and USS Pinckney, have joined the international search team looking for any signs of missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
CNN reports the Kidd and Pinckney are joining 40 ships from 10 countries, along with three dozen aircraft, in a desperate quest to find the plane that went missing Saturday.
Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, director general of the Malaysian Civil Aviation Department, told CNN:
The newly expanded search area encompasses a larger portion of the Gulf of Thailand between Malaysia and Vietnam.
A Navy news release describes the technology the Pinckney and Kidd have to offer to the search:
Kidd brings the same Arleigh-Burke Class capabilities as Pinckney with its two MH-60R Seahawk helicopters which are designed for search and rescue, as well as anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, surveillance, communications relay, naval gunfire support and logistics support.
As Home Post reported Sunday, a P-3C Orion aircraft departed Kadena Air Base in Okinawa to also aid in the hunt for the missing airplane.
Two oil slicks on the ocean's surface, spotted by the Vietnamese military aircraft over the weekend, have been tested and did not come from missing flight MH370, according to ABC News:
