The Mountain Empire Unified School District sent students home Wednesday after three schools lost electricity and water due to downed power lines.
Elementary schools in Descanso, Pine Valley and Potrero receive water via a pump system and were closed when the lights went off, Superintendent Kathy Granger said.
The remaining schools in the district were closed so all the students remain on the same academic calendar.
Granger said no decision has been made on reopening the schools Thursday, since PG&E doesn't know when the lines will be repaired yet.
Mountain Empire Unified School District consists of elementary schools in Campo, Clover Flat, Descanso, Pine Valley, Potrero and Jacumba; Mountain Empire High School and alternative education schools in Campo, Cottonwood and Hillside. The district covers more than 660 square miles.
