Helicopter Hard Landing Injures 7 U.S. Marines In Thailand

Seven U.S. Marines were injured in Thailand today during the international military exercise Cobra Gold when their helicopter made a hard landing.

The Cobra Gold Facebook page reports the CH-46E helicopter in question is assigned to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 out of Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Okinawa, Japan.

Smoke from the heavy US helicopter crash was noticed at noon, soon after a heavy rainstorm. It was 3pm before the injured were ferried out.

[One Marine] was being treated at Buddhachinaraj Hospital while the other three injured personnel were taken to Pitsanuvej Hospital.

Three other Americans were treated and did not require admission.
An estimated 13,000 troops from the United States, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia are in Thailand for Cobra Gold.
