New passenger gates at Terminal 2 in Lindbergh Field offer comfortable seats with electrical outlets and cup holders. There will be even more of them when renovation on the terminal is completed in August.
Reporters got a look at the six new gates today. They were just opened to allow for renovation of four existing gates.
San Diego County Regional Airport Authority president Thella Bowens said the overall expansion project is not expected to exceed its $1 billion budget, which includes financing costs.
"We're able to deliver everything that we had in the original project, in addition to a few little things that we added along the way,” Bowens said.
In addition to an expanded security checkpoint at Terminal 2, about $6 million worth of art will give the space a new look.
At the end of this month, the Terminal 2 parking lot will be finished and opened to its 1,300-car capacity.
