Congressman Brian Bilbray is running to represent California’s 52nd Congressional District, which includes the cities of San Diego, Poway and Coronado. Brian was born at Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado. As a native San Diegan, Brian has always been an independent voice for doing what’s right. Brian and his wife Karen live in San Diego, California and are the proud parents of five children and seven grandchildren.
There are some that may not like that Brian is willing to make waves to get things done. It didn’t stop him when as a city mayor he got on a bulldozer and stopped the sewage flowing into America from Mexico. That didn’t bother him when he ran for county supervisor to stop government from taking local property owners’ land. It didn’t stop him when he went to Congress in 1994 for the historic election that put in place a new generation committed to cleaning up Washington D.C.
In Congress, Brian helped pass the first balanced federal budget in 30 years – with a $155 billion surplus. He voted for reforms that forced members of Congress to follow and live by the laws that the rest of us have to. He worked hard to put 1,400 new agents on the border, and to help reimburse states for the cost of locking up illegal immigrants.
Since re-joining Congress in 2006, Brian has been focused on bringing jobs back to San Diego. In March, he introduced H.R. 1036, The Job Creation and Innovation Investment Act of 2011 which would help ensure that U.S. companies bring home foreign earned assets which encourages job creation by helping these businesses to increase their investments in research and manufacturing in the United States. He has also worked extensively to assist California Veterans get jobs by hosting a Veterans Career and Resource Fair in June and introducing H.R. 3340, the Help Inspire and Retrain our Exceptional (HIRE) Veterans Act of 2011, which is moving forward with bipartisan support.
Brian has also been a leading voice to stop the trillions in government debt that is bankrupting America. He has been committed to cutting waste so that we protect Social Security and Medicare. He is one of the nation’s leading voices in securing our borders.
