Korean Film Festival in LA

"Arahan"
"Arahan"

Tribute to South Korean Action Director Today and Tomorrow

Just a quick note. Last night the Korean Film Festival in LA kicked off last night with "Le Grand Chef 2: Kimchi Battle." But the event I want to highlight is a tribute today and tomorrow to South Korean action director Ryoo Seung-Wan at the Laemmle Music Hall, 9036 Whilshire Blvd. The director will be present and I urge anyone who can make it to attend.

Ryoo Seung-Wan has a way with action. From his gritty, shot on a shoe string ($55,000) first feature "Die Bad" to his epic "City of Violence," Ryoo has been a director I have eagerly followed. So the fact that he will be making a personal appearance is a big deal and something to celebrate. The festival will be showcasing "Die Bad" today at noon, then "Crying Fist" tomorrow at 12:30pm followed by "Arahan" at 5pm and the jaw-dropping "City of Violence" at 7:30pm. All films screen at the Laemmle Music Hall.

If you love Korean cinema and love an action film that combines breathtaking fight choreography with a real story, then you do not want to miss any of these films. Plus Ryoo will be on hand to answer questions about his amazing work.

If you have any doubts about attending, just check out this clip from "City of Violence." If this doesn't give you an adrenaline rush then you must not have a pulse.
