SD Unified Student Test Scores Improve Despite Budget Cuts
San Diego public school students posted gains on state standardized tests last year, despite a district budget that's been slashed by more than $300 million over the past few years.

San Diego public school students posted gains on state standardized tests last year, despite a district budget that's been slashed by more than $300 million over the past few years.

Test scores increased for another year in the San Diego Unified School District. Results show 56 percent of San Diego students scored high in English, that's a jump of 4 percent over last year.

San Diego Unified tied with the San Francisco Unified School District with the best scores in English among big city school districts.

In addition to that improvement, San Diego Unified saw big jumps in science scores, an 8 percent jump last year compared to the year before. Math scores went up about 5 percent.

Another year of steady growth in test scores is welcome news for the the district. The higher test scores comes after the district has cut millions of dollars from its budget and hired its fourth permanent superintendent in three years.
